The Hindenburg bunker is located on the Munster-Süd military training area and is only accessible when there is no firing taking place. It is a real lost place.
Access is usually from Wietzendorf when the barriers are open at the weekend.
Today, the Hindenburgbunker is a great viewing platform for the Wattberg and the vast heathland in front of it. Especially during the heather blossom, or in the foggy fall, it is a worthwhile bike ride.
The Hindenburg bunker was probably built around 1930 for target observation on the military training area. It is thought to have been named after the 91st Oldenburg Infantry Regiment under the command of Colonel von Hindenburg (later President of the Reich). The first occupation of the Munster barracks camp by Colonel von Hindenburg's troops marks the beginning of Munster's military history.
