Kulturzentrum Alte Weberei

Cultural Center
The program includes music concerts, cabaret evenings, theater performances and parties.

We are a lively place of socioculture in Nordhorn, close to the Dutch border. This is where interested and experimental people, established artists and new talents come together. We invite you to experience and help shape a diverse program: from music concerts, comedy, public lectures and fairs to socio-cultural projects. we offer group rooms and rent out our premises.

The program includes music concerts, cabaret evenings, theater performances and parties, and market and trade fair organizers also find a home in the listed rooms. Public lectures and receptions as well as cultural education events also enrich the program. Our halls can be hired for your own events (e.g. company and family celebrations, weddings, etc.). Until well into the 20th century, the weaving mill belonged to Ludwig Povel & Co. which, together with the companies NINO and Rawe, was one of Nordhorn's leading textile groups. Following its bankruptcy in 1978, around a thousand textile workers were made redundant and almost all of the factory buildings were demolished. Only three buildings were spared: the administration building, the spinning tower and the new weaving mill built in 1949, which was converted into the "ALTE WEBEREI" cultural center in the 1990s with funding from EUREGIO and the Landesarbeitsgemeinschaft Soziokultur (LAGS).

Today, the cultural center operates as a limited liability company. The shareholders are the city of Nordhorn, which supports the operation with an annual operating subsidy, the VVV-Stadt- und Citymarketing Nordhorn and the "ALTE WEBEREI" development association. The listed building houses the exhibition pavilions of the Municipal Gallery, the "Museum Factory" of the Nordhorn City Museum, the brewing kettles of the Grafschafter Brauhaus and the event halls of the ALTE WEBEREI.

In the area of participation and cultural education, the studio of the art school and the "movement room" of the municipal music school make a valuable contribution to the development of urban society; in February 2016, the theater, dance and photography laboratory of the ALTEN WEBEREI was also launched. These activities are transforming the cultural venue into a socio-cultural center where people of all age groups have the opportunity to become creatively active themselves, and the approximately 2,000 square meters of space with the charm and architecture of the Nordhorn textile industry is a magnet for trade fair events, antique and craft markets, conferences and company and family celebrations. This constant contact with local companies completes the triangle society-culture-economy.
