The tranquil resort town of Bippen is located in the hilly parkland of the Osnabrücker Land region
.
Around 3000 inhabitants live in Bippen, which is made up of many small villages such as Dalum, Restrup, Ohrte, Ohrtermersch, Hartlage, Lonnerbecke, Vechtel and Klein Bokern. 5,000 years ago, the first farmers and cattle breeders erected the megalithic tombs for the dead of the clan.
The village itself developed from a small settlement of Saxon farms, which were located on a terrace between the Esch and the extensive lowlands of the stream (600 - 700 AD).
Today, the old church with the village square, the pond and the park at the Pastorenhof form the centre of the village. In recent decades, several building areas have been developed and a holiday home settlement has been created. A modern indoor riding arena, sports fields and an outdoor swimming pool are available for leisure and sports. There is a local history centre for cultural interests. The Kuhlhoff education and information centre provides an insight into the main features of this region (agriculture, forestry, etc.) and includes the nationally renowned HaiTec Museum.
Since the 1960s, Bippen has developed into a residential and recreational area. Hiking trails run through the extensive forest area of the Maiburg and the parkland around the village. Since 1977, Bippen has been a resort offering holidaymakers peace and relaxation in a largely unspoilt natural environment. There are also legendary things to discover in Bippen: Megalithic tombs. They date back to the early Stone Age and provide evidence of early settlement in the Osnabrück region. Between 2700 and 2150 BC, such burial sites were built, which can be discovered on the Megalithic Culture Route. The size of the rocks and chambers of the Restrup megalithic tomb remain a mystery to this day. The same goes for the Duevelsteen, the Devil's Stone. The granite block has 66 small bowls that have not yet been interpreted. According to legend, the devil sat on the stone at night and plotted wicked plans. He pressed holes into the rock with his thumb.
There are also two TERRA.tracks for hiking near Bippen: The TERRA.track Vosspäddken leads over four kilometres through a wooded area south of the village, while the TERRA.track Ice Age Discovery Trail takes you on a journey into the past at ten themed stations over six kilometres. They show how people farmed the land at the end of the Ice Age.
