The three-aisled hall church was built in 1905 in neo-Gothic style.
It is dedicated to the patron saint St. James the Elder.
A church had stood on the present site since the middle of the 14th century, which burned down in 1875 after being struck by lightning. The subsequent replacement building had considerable defects and was closed in 1885. This was followed by the laying of the foundation stone for the current church in 1904.
Plans to redesign the church have been underway since 2005. This was completed in 2009. Since then, the interior has had a contemporary look, as shown by the placement of the altar and the ambo.
