    Hike through the cultural landscape between Bučina and Knižecí Pláně in Šumava National Park

    On the circular route ‘Trauermantel’ (Camberwell Beauty butterfly), we start at the Buchwald/Bučina border crossing and venture into Šumava National Park. Along the way, we discover many traces of the rich history of this border region, including reconstructed border installations, as well as in Fürstenhut/Knižecí Pláně, the rebuilt cemetery, remnants of the church, and the war memorial of the destroyed village. The open landscape with pastures, stone walls, and groups of trees holds its own special charm.

    Bučina - Knižecí Pláně - Teufelsbachklause - Bučina
    Correct on the go – all the time:


    • Beware of falling trees and deadwood! The use of the path is at your own risk. At strong wind please leave the forest for safety reasons!
    • Path regulations in order to protect endangered plants and animals in certain areas of the national park
    • Please do not leave any trash! Dog poop bags or handkerchiefs do not belong in nature either. Please help to keep our wild forest clean. Thank you!
    Always ensure to have good equipment: card, sturdy shoes, something to drink, first aid kit, bad weather clothing.

    Please carry a valid identification document with you as the tour crosses the border into the Czech Republic.

    When arriving by car, please use the parking area Ski- und Sportstadion Finsterau (ski and sports stadium) and change to the Igelbus there.
    Due to construction there are currently no possibilities to park at Wistlberg!
