Parking area Sagwassersäge –Ochsenriegel shelter – Ochsenriegel – stone staircase – parking area Sagwassersäge
Tour description:
We start our child-friendly family tour at the parking area Sagwassersäge. First, we climb the stone steps to the left of the information panel, cross the forest road and are now at the entrance to the path. The circular trail ‘Flusskrebs’ (Crayfish) is therefore signposted with the yellow mark 'Flusskrebs' (Crayfish).
Along the Seebach, the path leads slightly uphill and one can experience on-site, how the national park has slowly transformed into a wild forest. Where old trees have died due to storm, snow break and bark beetle infestation, emerge new virgin woodlands. Standing and lying dead wood provides an important refuge - especially for funghi and insects.
After about 800 meters, we turn right, where the path leads a bit steeper uphill. We cross the Seebach by balancing over some stones in the creek bed and reach the shelter Ochsenriegel after about 150 meters. Here at the highest point of our tour, we can take a little rest.
Next, we follow the signpost ‘Flusskrebs’ (Crayfish) to the right and our path leads slightly downhill to the small rock formation Ochsenriegel. Now we face the only steep section of the tour, a rock staircase. Caution is required: slippery when wet. The entrance to the stairs is on the left hand side.
At the bottom of the rock staircase, the path meanders through fallen trees and boulders, until we reach Seebach after 300 meters and cross it again. Then we follow the ‘Flusskrebs’ (Crayfish) in the direction of the parking area Sagwassersäge, reach it after about 50 meters and are at the end of our short but eventful tour.

Did you know it?
A new native forest area emerges in the national park
Within the national park, there is no interference with natural development processes on most of its surface. Natural disturbances, such as windthrow, bark beetle and snow break, change the appearance of the landscape enormously within a relatively short time. Old trees die and remain in the forest. Between their remains, a new and stable native forest area with great biodiversity is created. Standing and lying deadwood is very important, as it offers a wide variety of habitats for a variety of life. Insects and fungi benefit from deadwood, for example. Young trees grow up under great living conditions in the area around deadwood with a good supply of water, nutrients and substrate.
