Lake

The Trinkwassertalsperre at the edge of the national park can easily be explored on foot.

Since 1983, the 94-hectare reservoir with its 86-meter dam has been supplying large parts of Lower Bavaria and Upper Palatinate with the best drinking water. The building, which seems futuristic due to the extraction tower and the overflow pipe, is intended to compensate for the geological groundwater scarcity. The Trinkwassertalsperre is fed by the tributaries Kleiner Regen and Hirschbach. Its catchment area covers the area of the Bavarian Forest National Park almost entirely, and ensures a very good water quality for the long term. A circular path leads around the man-made water body.
