Mountaintop Look-out Geotope

The Lusen is the most prominent mountain in Bavarian Forest National Park.

The boulder area at Lusen summit is one of the 100 most beautiful geotopes in Bavaria. There are many legends about the origin of the summit at an altitude of 1373 meters above sea level. One is that the devil himself wanted to pave the road to hell and that he has overturned the wheelbarrow with the stones along the way. In fact, however, this phenomenon is caused by frost wedging: Many smaller granite boulders that seem to lie randomly on each other originate from one large rock.
