The 18-hole course at GC Emstal is beautifully situated directly on an arm of the River Ems. The course is as well maintained as a typical golf course. At the same time, however, it is unusually dedicated to the protection of nature. This was confirmed as early as 1997 by the Bund für Umwelt- und Naturschutz Deutschland e.V. (BUND): the near-natural terrain reflects the original character of the Emstal valley, it said.

Since 2005, GC Emstal has been taking part in the "Golf & Natur" project, which the German Golf Association developed together with the Federal Agency for Nature Conservation and the German Greenkeeper Association. In 2009, GC Emstal received the highest "Golf & Natur" certificate in gold for the first time.
