Heinrich and Thomas Mann Center-permanent exhibition about the life of the Nobel laureate and family

The white house has become world-famous as the setting for Thomas Mann's novel "Buddenbrooks. In fact, it is the house of his grandparents; Thomas Mann and his older brother Heinrich came and went here as children. As the ancestral home of the Mann family and the home of the literary Buddenbrooks, the Buddenbrookhaus is one of the most important literary museums in Germany.
 
Due to extensive renovation work, the Buddenbrookhaus is currently closed. Since 2020, the museum Behnhaus Drägerhaus presents the new special exhibition "Buddenbrooks at the Behnhaus". When Heinrich Breloer filmed Buddenbrooks in 2008, the family already moved into the Behnhaus for some scenes. Here, in the historic living rooms, the ambience of the novel and the Mann family comes to life.
