Excursion with tradition: trip on the historic steamship Kaiser Wilhelm

A real gem for visitors to the region: the majestic paddle steamer Kaiser Wilhelm. This magnificent ship was built between 1899 and 1900 by the renowned Dresdner Maschinenfabrik und Schiffswerft AG in Dresden-Neustadt. The order came from Oberweserdampfschifffahrt, which belonged to the Weser mill owner F.W. Meyer from Hameln. The ceremonial launching took place, as far as is known, on May 20, 1900. Today, the steamer sails as an excursion ship on various routes between Hamburg and Dresden, with a regular stop in Bleckede. This historical gem is operated by dedicated members of the Association for the Promotion of the Lauenburger Elbschiffahrtsmuseum e.V., who contribute their time and passion on a voluntary basis. There are usually 10 to 15 volunteers on each trip, who put their heart and soul into keeping history alive.
