Mining, castles, optics and, last but not least, Goethe - the 5th stage of the Lahnradweg impresses with its many cultural and historical highlights.

It's not easy to move on from Weilburg with its picturesque old town centre. But there are other cultural and historical highlights waiting to be discovered. In Weilburg, a visit to the baroque castle complex is definitely a "must". And you should also take a look at the oldest and longest ship tunnel that can still be travelled through today. Via Löhnberg, Leun and Solms, the route takes you comfortably and without any noticeable inclines, sometimes to the left, sometimes to the right along the Lahn to Wetzlar. At the end of the relatively short cycle tour, you will certainly have time to stop off at one of the many restaurants and cafés in the old town centre or simply enjoy the sun in one of the relaxing green spaces in the city of Goethe and optics.

From the railway station, follow the signs for the Lahnradweg and change sides of the Lahn at Ahausen. Next you reach Löhnberg, where you cross the Lahn again. Stay on this side of the Lahn until Stockhausen. There you change to the other side of the Lahn and cycle to Leun. From Leun, you cycle relaxed to Solms, cross the village on the northern edge and change sides of the Lahn at Schluesenhaus.

If you dare to cycle an extra 6 kilometres on a quiet side road near Solms-Oberbiel, you should definitely visit the visitor mine Grube Fortuna. And, of course, plan some time for a guided tour. Altenberg Monastery is another tempting detour. From Solms-Oberbiel, you then roll comfortably along the Lahn and across the small river Dill to finally reach Wetzlar. The stage ends at the railway station.

However, if you are not yet familiar with Wetzlar, you should keep to the right at the Hospital Church and take a detour over the old Lahn bridge to the other side of the Lahn. This is where the heart of the city of Goethe and optics beats with its cathedral and picturesque old town. You will encounter Goethe at every turn and an optics trail bears witness to the importance of Wetzlar for the optics industry. This short stage still leaves plenty of time for an extensive tour of the town.

The Lahnradweg runs mainly on cycle paths, quiet side roads and country lanes. However, please observe the road traffic regulations and show consideration for other cyclists, agricultural vehicles and pedestrians.

Trekking or touring bike (e-bike or conventional), spare inner tube and tools, water bottle and clothing suitable for the weather.

The Fortuna mine for visitors can be reached from Oberbiel via a quiet side road. A pit cage takes visitors "underground".
