'Enjoy cycling the popular summer resort region of the Emperor Franz Joseph and Empress Elisabeth along picturesque scenery, which enticed artists such as Gustav Klimt '. Cultural tidbits remain on the route and culinary exquisites are essentials to this tour. This includes freshly caught trout and char from the Salzkammergut Lakes on the dining plan of every gourmet. The Federal States of Upper Austria, Salzburg and Styria are traversed in a gentle up and down along the Lakes of the Salzkammergut. The total 345 km long route, which allows for many variations leads from Salzburg via the Mondsee, Wolfgangsee and Hallstättersee Lake to Lake Grundlsee.

Those who start their route in the Festival City of Salzburg, start along the trackbed of the old Ischl railway towards Eugendorf and continue into the Mozart village St. Gilgen, to St. Wolfgang and the famous Imperial City of Bad Ischl. Here one can extensively follow the footsteps of Emperor Franz Josef: Kaiserpark with imperial villa, town museum, Convention Center or a retreat to the legendary Café Zauner. Further South is the charming world heritage region around the Lake Hallstatt. Not to be missed is both a detour into the Gosau Valley, and a visit to Hallstatt and the Dachstein caves. A journey by train is ideal for Bad Aussee, where the Styrian Salzkammergut trail over bad Mitterndorf offers a connection to the Enns cycle path. Connoisseurs can insert a long breather in the thermal baths, ambitious cyclists can turn an extra around the Salzaalm (mountain stage) back to the Grundlsee. A sweet temptation awaits for any sweet tooth in Bad Aussee: the Ausseer Lebzelterei, which is one of the most attractive destinations with its delightful plateau location with panoramic views from the Dachstein into the Tote Gebirge (mountain range).

You drive by Altaussee a forest road to Bad Ischl and along the Traun and the Lake Traun to Gmunden. Here a boat trip with the majestic "Gisela", the oldest paddle steamer in the world, and a visit to Lake Castle should not be missed. Via Aurach am Hongar the tour continues to the largest lake in the Salzkammergut, Attersee and on to the Mondsee Lake. The collegiate church and the pile dwelling Museum are worth a visit. After the Irrsee Lake you reach the pilgrimage church of Irrsdorf and then the idyllic Salzburg Lake District. Cheese lovers shouldn’t miss a visit to the world of cheese in the Schaudorf Schleedorf, water enthusiasts can enjoy the Mattsee Lake and the Obertrumer Lake. Now, there are only a few kilometres back into the city of Salzburg.
