    Extremely varied, moderately difficult stage with some moderate climbs. Inexperienced walkers should not underestimate the stage due to its length.

    Haan-Gruiten to Wülfrath-Düssel

    We walk quickly behind the stage start at Gruiten S-Bahn Station into the Düssel Valley ( Düsseltal) to the idyllic half-timbered village of Gruiten.

    The path continues through the Grube 7 Nature Reserve (Naturschutzgebiet), a former limestone quarry, into the Osterholzer Forest (Osterholzer Wald).

    From there, we wander over the hills on narrow paths back into the Düssel Valley ( Düsseltal) to Schöller, the village with the Schinderhannes Tower (Schinderhannesturm).

    Then we cross fields and meadows as far as Düssel (the village, not the river). Düssel is a jewel of the Bergisches Land, with a moated castle and great places to eat.

    This is where a varied and wonderful stage of mountains and valleys ends.

    The narrow paths can be slippery in places, particularly in wet weather.

    Be careful at the edges of steep faces, keep your distance.

    Wear good walking shoes.

    The path runs beside cool streams, through deep forests, and over windy hills; depending on the time of year and the weather, you may need to take a coat.
