Hiking Route

Startpunkt

Biedenkopf, Railway station

Zielpunkt

Bad Laasphe, "Haus des Gastes"

Because of his height of 535 meters, the Entenberg is a popular take-off point for hang- and paragliding. It also offers a great view of Niederlaasphe and the Lahntal for hikers.

From Biedenkopf you will walk up into the forest and if you take the small detour to the Kolumbustempel, a wonderful view to the Landgrafenschloss on the opposite side is waiting for you. Another highlight will be the Perfstausee: The reservoir was built in 1984 after a flood catastrophe and is a popular destination for excursions today. It is the home of many birds. Behind Breidenstein, the trail climbs up to the main highlight of the hike: the Entenberg. The local mountain of Bad Laasphe is a popular take-off point for hang-gliders and paragliders and hikers will enjoy a great view of Niederlaasphe and the Lahn Valley. With magnificent views of Wittgenstein castle, you will finally hike down to Bad Laasphe.

We will start today's stage in the romantic half-timbered town of Biedenkopf with its imposing Landgrafenschloss. From the railway station the route first climbs up to the Amselborn fountain. The short detour to the Columbustempel should definitely be part of today. Its original construction is meant to demonstrate the open-mindedness of the Biedenkopf citizens. It also provides another view of Biedenkopf castle.

The tour continues through beautiful deciduous forest which offers a lot of quiet and the chance to unwind. The highest point of today’s tour offers a fantastic view of the surrounding countryside. In the refuge "Stehtischler" there will be an opportunity to rest. Walking downhill through the forest we will get to the recreation area Perfstausee which is a suitable spot to stop for a break. Sitting at the sun terrace, you will have a fabulous view of the lake and the surrounding wooded hills.

The break is also meant to prepare you for the uphill passage that is about to come. First of all, there will be a moderate walk through the little village of Breidenstein. Afterwards you will have to manage the ascent to the Entenberg which is 535 m high. Having accomplished the climb, you will be rewarded with an impressive view of Niederlaasphe and the Lahn valley. Similar to a model building landscape, the trains pass by down in the valley. Don't forget to leave a message in the summit book!

Moving on, you can enjoy some more wonderful views. Cross the plateau that was created by the storm Kyrill and descend steeply to the Hugo-Kracht-Hütte afterwards. From here the trail continues down to Bad Laasphe. Views of the small town of North Rhine-Westphalia and Wittgenstein castle await us. Through the Kurpark you will finally reach the Haus des Gastes where today's stage ends.
