    Moderately difficult stage. Deilbach Valley (Deilbachtal), Felderbach Valley (Feldbachtal), Bergisches Land and Elfringhauser Schweiz – lots of ups and downs. Should not be underestimated due to length and elevation gain.

    Velbert-Nordrath to Velbert-Nierenhof

    We begin in Nordrath and quickly head into the Deilbach Valley (Deilbachtal).

    This stream forms the border between the districts of Mettmann and Hattingen, and between the Rhineland (Rheinland) and Westphalia (Westfalen), between two different mind-sets and dialects.

    Then we cross the Deilbach into Westphalia and the mountainous Elfringhauser Schweiz. We pass the Langenberg transmitter (taller than the Eiffel Tower!) and finally reach the Felderbach Valley (Felderbachtal). This forest stage ends at the S-Bahn station in Velbert-Nierenhof.

    The narrow paths can be slippery in places, particularly in wet weather.

    Be careful at the edges of steep faces, keep your distance.

    Wear good walking shoes.

    The path runs beside cool streams, through deep forests, and over windy hills; depending on the time of year and the weather, you may need to take a coat.
