Aumenau, bridge over river Lahn

The meadows and forests high above the river Lahn are fascinating aspects of the area that is “home” to the Lahn marble. Whenever the weather is good, the Steimelskopf hill offers views as far as the Taunus and the Rheingau.

Today you will start at the source of the Lahn marble. It has been used for many famous buildings. One example is the baroque marble bath of the Weilburger castle which is nearby. But it has even been used in the hermitage in St. Petersburg and in the entrance hall of the Empire State Building in New York! After visiting the Lahn Marmor Museum and the Unica marble quarry there is still enough time for the rest of this tour. Between Villmar and the borough Aumenau, the lonely meadow and forest sections high above the river Lahn are fascinating. With good weather conditions, the Steimelskopf offers a view of the Taunus and even the Rheingau. Afterwards you will walk down the Lahn to Aumenau village in a relaxed way.

The marble bridge of Villmar is already worth the trip. After visiting the new Lahn Marmor Museum and the natural monument Unica you will still have enough time for the presented tour. Passing the natural monument Unica, the access path leads through the forest up to the Lahnwanderweg trail.

Along the edge of the forest and over fields you will now reach the Schanzlerhof. Above the farm the view opens up and you can see as far as the mountains of the Taunus. Through the forest you will now walk down into the Tiefenbachtal. The Tiefenbach has a length of only 9 km and flows into the Lahn. You will cross it over a small footbridge.

Although the trail is not very steep, it constantly goes uphill to the Steimelskopf. On the panoramic trail at the Steimelskopf you can enjoy an incredible view between the Taunus and the Westerwald. Afterwards you will get into a beautiful section at the nature reserve. A bench is waiting for you at the signpost "Unten im Grund", inviting you to sit down for a moment. Passing meadows and fields, you will finally get to the Heimannsmühle.

At the end of the tour, there is another beautiful section through the forest with views of the Lahn. Hikers will have the choice between several places for refreshments at the stage destination in Aumenau. The railway station is on the opposite side of the river Lahn.
