This thematic trail with nine interpretation panels offers a wealth of information on the region and the contrasts between then and now.

This round walk starts at the Adlermättli information panel in front of Einsiedeln monastery, leads through the old stables and up to the statue of St. Benedict with its delightful views of the monastery grounds. You then head gently upwards towards "Birchli". The view on the saddle opens on both sides, over the village and over Lake Sihl with the Alps in the background. Here a short excursion to the Vogelherd vantage point is worthwhile. The path now leads down to left of the lake until shortly before the Hüendermatt dam. You then follow the lake past the Segelplatz marina to the Roblosen lido, then left towards Hirzenstein. You return via the woodland path - Galgenchappeli - Alte Etzelstrasse - Horgenberg to the monastery.

Einsiedeln is  40 km from Zurich and 55 km from Lucerne. If arriving on the A3 Zurich – Chur motorway, Einsiedeln is 15 minutes' drive from the Richterswil and Schindellegi exits.

Brüel AG and MM Center Einsiedeln multi-storey car parks, plus numerous other fee-paying car parks.

The Swiss Federal Railways (SBB) and Südostbahn Railway (SOB) provide a half-hourly service between Zurich and Einsiedeln. The SOB's "Voralpen-Express" on the Romanshorn – Lucerne line provides an hourly service to Einsiedeln from Lucerne and eastern Switzerland.
