Marburg, St. Elizabeth's Church

This will be the king's stage: a length of 25 km as well as more than 680 meters of altitude difference have to be mastered today. But this won’t be a problem as long as the weather is fine. Take your backpack and your hiking boots with you and off you go!

From the idyllic half-timbered village of Fronhausen, the Lahnwanderweg trail will take you over fields and meadows, through tiny Hessian villages and will reward you with magnificent views. The castle of Marburg is a real highlight at the end of the tour and you can round off the day in one of the many cozy restaurants in the old town.

Details
Starting in the idyllic half-timbered village of Fronhausen, follow the yellow access route markings to the branch above the Schmelzmühle. Continue towards Oberwalgern. Beautiful courtyards and half-timbered houses can be seen along the way. The Lahnwanderweg trail leads over meadows and fields to Oberweimar which has quite a distinctive village church. At the Oberweimarer Blick you can take a rest and enjoy the view.

The trail continues with a couple of beautiful views and guides you to Ockershausen through the forest. At the Hasenkopf a wonderful panoramic view is waiting for hikers. In the distance, you might even be able to see Marburg with its prominent castle. But before that, the Rosenlehrpfad leads you past 50 different wild roses and former cultural roses. Beautiful drawings by the French plant painter Pierre-Joseph Redouté can be seen on the information boards. After passing a couple of beautiful city villas, you will reach the flowery Marburg Schlosspark.

The Schlossberg offers a magnificent view of Marburg. On a board you will find interesting information about the Landgrafenschloss which was originally built as a castle in the 11th century. Moving on from the castle, the trail will only go downhill until you arrive at the Elisabethkirche where today’s stage comes to an end. The historical city of Marburg with its romantic old town and a wide range of cozy restaurants invites you to a well-deserved dinner.
