The natural history museum is focused on zoology, botany and geology. The main field of research is the soil biology.
The Upper Lusatia is a landscape with the highest richness in species in Germany. This natural diversity und beauty of our homeland is shown in the exhibitions of the Museum of Natural History in Görlitz. Rare and typical plants and animals of the region, for example wolfs, see eagle, the otter or the crane can be experienced eye-to-eye in dioramas designed close to nature.
The geology of Upper Lusatia is also presented, from the 600 million year old greywacke, to the Lusatian granodiorite, to lignite or the glacial till. The Museum of Natural History on the Marienplatz shows the facets of the nature and perfects your stay in Görlitz.
In other exhibitions animals from the tropical rainforst and the savannah are shown.
The research tradition of the museum is represented by a 30 times enlarged soil column with models of typical soil animals.
A vivarium accommodates living coral reef fish, lizards, snakes, tarantulas and tropical insects, rays and other fish, as well as an 8,000-liter pond aquarium with the fish of Lusatian aquaculture.
