Magdeburg cathedral

Erste gotische Kathedrale auf deutschem Boden und Grabstätte des ersten Kaisers des Heiligen Römischen Reiches Otto I.

Editha, the first wife of Otto I, was buried here in 946. Otto I is buried in his original tomb dating from 973 in the choir. The unique sandstone figures of the ruler and his wife date from the 13th century. Construction of the Gothic cathedral was not completed until 1520. Also open until 6 pm in the summer.
