Castle

A small turnoff on the road between Tangerhütte and Tangermünde leads into the countryside to Briest. In 1345, the village, which belonged to Burgstall as an outlying estate, came into fief to Nicolaus von Bismarck, master of the clothiers' guild in Stendal.

After Burgstall was taken from the von Bismarck family by the hunting-loving Elector Prince Johann Georg von Brandenburg and exchanged for Krevese and Schönhausen, Briest remained the oldest ancestral seat of the family until 1945, the land reform. In 1997, Dipl. Ing Friedrich von Bismarck and his wife Maren von Bismarck bought back the farm building as well as forest and agricultural land. In addition to ecological agriculture, sustainable silviculture and water management were of great importance to them. The historically regionally significant buildings Herrnhaus and Brauhaus underwent careful restoration. In 2008, this commitment was honored with the monument award of the state of Saxony-Anhalt.
