Max Mannheimer was a survivor of the Holocaust. He made it his task to report and clarify his experiences as a contemporary witness.

Max Mannheimer was born on February 6th, 1920 in the Czech Republic. Because of his Jewish origin, he was brought to the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp during the Nazi era. His parents, his wife and three of his siblings fell victim to the Nazis. He and his brother Edgar were brought to Munich-Allach and Mühldorf in the Dachau concentration camp.Mannheimer survived the Holocaust, seriously ill and starved. After the war he moved to Munich, where he worked as a merchant. He was also involved in the Jewish community and the SPD. His second wife was a German resistance fighter. Since the 1980s, Mannheimer has increasingly taken up the fight against right-wing extremism and anti-Semitism. As a contemporary witness, he shared his experiences as a Holocaust survivor.Max Mannheimer died on September 23, 2016 in Munich.
