Willkommen im ältesten Bergbaumuseum Deutschlands!

The Upper Harz Mining Museum in Clausthal-Zellerfeld has existed since 1892. It is one of the oldest technical museums in Germany. It shows you how mining in Clausthal-Zellerfeld developed from the Middle Ages to when it ended in 1930.

At the museum you can see technical models and films from earlier times. There are also valuable coins. And the first wire rope in the world.

You can also see a lot of things from the everyday life of the people in the Harz. These objects will show you how the people in the Harz lived and worked. And how important mining was for those people.

The highlights of a visit to the museum are the visitor mine and the old mining installations in the outdoor area. The shaft building of the visitor mine is more than 200 years old. The gallery in the visitor mine will show you what the galleries in the mines in the Harz looked like.

Here in the museum you can also book a guided walk through the Upper Harz Water Management System.
